Essential Tips About Flood Insurance in Arizona

Floods can happen nearly anywhere, including Arizona. Most homeowner’s policies do not cover flood damage. Arizonians can get flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Plan (NLFP). However, not everyone is eligible for NLFP.

Requirements for eligibility differ with each town. Each town has regulations for building or home construction to make them comply with safety regulations, including building to withstand a flood. Buildings must comply with local building regulations in order for their owners to be eligible for NLFP.

What Does It Cover?

NFLP covers the building you own and all of the contents inside. However, it does not include pets or other animals. Some people choose to get coverage for their homes but not the contents inside.

What It Doesn’t Cover

NFLP usually takes a month before it comes into effect. If a flood happens in the meantime, you are not covered. Flood insurance does not cover outbuildings, crops, gardens, machinery, trees, pets or livestock.
